The Netherlands, Same Old Story

Noble Readers will have noticed I made no mention of Carter’s Improved Betting System in my last blog. If you had reached the conclusion that this was due to my attempting like some filthy politician to brush an abject failure under the carpet, then shame on you!
Remember that the CIBS had predicted a straight twelve matches in a row faultlessly, and only in the thirteenth - thirteenth, mind you - did it fail to come up with perfection. (What did I say about luck playing an occasional part in the proceedings?) Well, I ask you this: who DID predict the unprecedented implosion of the hosts? I mean, what could I have got odds wise if I’d marched into William Hill prior to that match and slapped my sweaty grand down on Germany 7 (SEVEN) Brazil 1 (ONE)?
Quite. I might have ended up actually owning William Hill.
I might remind doubters that the CIBS has returned to its winning ways. Like all true Englishmen I dearly wanted the men in Blackpool shirts to fire in a winner or two against those dastardly South American ruffians, but "tactical genius" Louis van Gaal failed to swap goalkeepers, and so played into (ene)my hands. To add insult to injury, it turns out that Louis was the very man who taught the Argentine 'keeper to save penalties. Oh, dear! That's punctured the van Gaal myth of infallibility good and proper. Best of luck at Man U next season, then.
So ... who will win the Golden Shillelagh come Sunday? CIBS says the Hun. And the superfluous 3rd place trophy will just have to go to Brazil. I mean, can you imagine having to play out the nightmare in front of a home crowd of absolute zero? Especially when they've all burned their shirts. Ghastly!
