The Empty Throne

I hope it was a good July 4th for one and all—not that you celebrate it in the UK, of course! A wet one for many, but the rest of the holiday weekend looks glorious. I may be off the radar screen for a while again as I ran into a researching snag, have to sort out conflicting sources. I will stop by whenever I can dodge the Deadline Dragon. Meanwhile, I have wonderful news for Bernard Cornwell’s legion of fans. He will have a new book out about our favorite rogue, Uhtred, this year! For me, a new BC novel is always as if Christmas came early. The Empty Throne will be published in the UK on October 23rd and in the US on January 6th. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Empty-Throne-... The countdown can now begin.

Anduine Ha! All Europe is in football (soccer) fever - but for you I'll draw my sword and try to fend off the Deadline Dragon, so take all the time you need for your researches, after all they are essential for good historical novels.

Sharon Thank you, Anduine! Who are you rooting for in the World Cup?

message 3: by Anduine (new)

Anduine Well since Germany is still in the game, I'll be patriotic ;-)

Sharon I cheered for the Yanks, but I guess now I'll root for whoever the underdog is. :-)

Iset There's barely been a mention of it here in Britain, much to my relief. Can't stand football.

Anduine @Isis, I'm with you on that on a large scale, even though I'm still keeping fingers crossed during the World Cup and let us be honest, in Europe if the National Team is playing and winning, one can't avoid football. Pesonally I believe that either Holland or Brazil will win - psssst!!!!
@Sharon at this stage, there are really no more underdogs.

Sharon I guess I'll stay neutral, then!

Anduine Who'd have ever believed Brazil to be the underdogs! What a game! Germany in the finals after a historical 7:1 over Brazil

message 9: by Sharon (new)

Sharon I was just going to congratulate you, Anduine! I was thinking how happy you must be while I watched the game.

Anduine Stunned would describe it far better. Since you watched the game you will know what I mean. I have never seen Brazil get slaughtered like this before - actually we were all feeling a bit sorry for them, which did not keep us from being gloriously happy and proud.

Sharon I am an American football fan, so I am not really familiar with the game that only we call soccer :-) But I do watch some of the World Cup, and even a novice like me understood how amazing this game was. If you win all the marbles, will your entire country come to a screeching halt to celebrate?

Anduine More or less, I would say. That is IF we win the trophy. At least as close as us Germans can come to a screeching halt. But yes, it will be one big party should we win on Sunday. But last night was really one of a kind, it almost looked so easy - like one of these days where nothing can't go wrong.

P.S. As a true European - I do prefer Rugby over American football, even though neither is very popular in Germany
