Around the Block: Lies of friendzone, cake and writers block.
Writer's Block and How to SMASH It!
Okie Dokie true believers, today I'm going to tackle writers block. I'm doing this mostly for a dear friend of mine who has started a story and doesn't know where to take it from there. I'm going to start with a quote from the King himself, Stephen King.
"You must not come to the page lightly."
Get it?
If you are already having mixed feelings about what to write, where it's going to go and so on, you're stacking the deck against yourself from the get go. Just come ready, willing, raring, eager to write! That's all you need, the attitude. You don't need to know where it's going to go, just take the first step and show up! It's like a race, you don't complete it in a single bound do you? NO! First you show up, then you take step after step and keep on moving. Eventually you get to where you wanted to go! The same with writing, first you show up. Don't give yourself the block before you even open up the work and get to writing.
Once you've shown up then what? Good question. How about starting the next sentence with ONE, UNO, 1, UN, SINGULAR WORD! who said you had to write a whole sentence? I didn't. Try, the, he she, them, I, for the simplest of starts. Don't worry how it sounds, that's what editing is for. Books are made and broken there, not in the roughest of drafts. Once you have the first word the rest will come I swear, there's only soo many ways it can progress from there but honestly DON'T THINK ABOUT IT! Thinking is your enemy, writing is an art, let it flow. END! Don't think about how it flows or why, just write it, dont question it ugh!
It's why it's been shown people write best when tired, not even that but are more creative then. Your subconscious takes over and you are too tired to rationalize and question, thus you just are creative. If youre over thinking, go for a walk, jog, skip rope, climb stairs or workout! It helps me, then show up ready to write but by GOD SHOW UP TO WRITE! Thats why i do this folks, i dont type blogs for you lot, nobody see's these, i know, i can see the views and comments lol.
But by doing this ive already started writing something, letting my brain and fingers get accustomed to the work ahead, its my warmup before the workout. Writers block is like the friend zone is to guys, a myth. Its something to make you feel comfortable about something imaginary going on in your head. THERE IS NO FRIEND ZONE IT IS A LIE, LIKE THE CAKE. THERE IS NO WRITERS BLOCK, ITS JUST YOU MAKING AN EXCUSE NOT TO WRITE.
You CAN write something. who cares if its not the best the first time around, finish your draft before you critique, in fact poof you are no longer allowed to critique yourself till done. I have seized your inner doubt, editor and more, they are being strung up over a pit of lava with fire breathing turtle monkey....things? that will eat them if you do not finish. want em back then write! then you can judge when done! It's all a lie, only the words are real so just start with something. you can even just write blah blah blah i hate this and i swear something will eventually come, then erase the blah blah and write what truly comes. I mean i know im no ny times best seller but ive been doing this for 6 years now. trust me, i atleast know how to start and finish a project. i know how to write and make no excuses, im not a best seller but i can write and complete a novel theres a difference. jeez
so there you go, the friend zone (dunno how that popped up buts its a lie so it fits) the cake and writers blocks are ALL LIES!!!!! now go forth and write!
