Yeah, it's a fine line reviewing outside your "go-to" genres, especially if the actions of the characters are making you roll your eyes! But if the characters are behaving realistically, and the author has delineated them well, and if the story is well written and well constructed, you can focus your review on that.
Reviews are for consumers, to make quick judgment calls about a work before they buy. A positive review can still be critical - I write criticisms in even 5-star reviews! And one person's negative is often another's positive.
There are lots of "grownups" who read YA and love it. My favourite sort is where the main characters are a bit more mature than their ages would suggest.
If you like paranormal, a good YA in that subgenre is The Elect. I loved it! It was smart, really well written, and I flipped through it so fast . . .! LOL. There's a sequel to it and, I believe, the end of the trilogy coming out by year-end.
