Sentient rings changed their tune, and the Fourfold smiled. Nock spoke first, and as usual, his brothers chimed in. “Tamaes, the opanim have given thought …”
“ … to a gift for you.”
“Did you forget your …”
“ … first love in order to …”
“ … please your first friend?” Nock finished.
The angels took his hands and drew him closer to the opanim, whose gyrations slowed enough to reveal a weapon suspended within. Jeweled eyes winked and sparkled as Nock lifted out a sword and presented it to Tamaes.
His gasp became a grunt. “It is heavy!”
