Banjo's Book Recommendations and Mousie Recon -- "Cat & Mouse" by Ian Schoenherr

Picture Daddy Tim brought me a foolish book about a cat and a mouse to review. I like it. He and Daddy Trent have actually chanted part of this book to me; now I know they weren't just making it up. They make up a lot of songs and rhymes (and some are rude!)

So this is a make-believe story about a cat and a mouse. According to what the writer said at the back of the book, it takes three traditional rhymes and puts them together. Picture The first rhyme is "I love little Pussy" Thankfully the writer of this book changed it to "Kitty" We don't mind being called Puss...but Pussy these days makes too many humans giggle.

"I love little Kitty.
Her coat is so warm.
And if I don't hurt her
She'll do me no harm."

The mousie is chanting this with his umbrella...and the cat IS chasing him. Then they reach a clock and the story becomes "Hickory Dickory Dock" The mouse climbs the clock and it strikes one: Picture The mousie gets away and runs to his hole. The book returns to the "little Kitty" rhyme for a few more stanzas...then changes to "Eeny Meeny Miney Moe." And while the Kitty is cleaning, the mousie catches the tiger (kitty) by her toe! Picture Mousies should never interrupt a Kitty at her bath!

Then the text returns to the Kitty rhyme:

"She'll sit by my side
And I'll give her some food.
And kitty will love me
Because I am good." Picture I think we can all agree this is totally make-believe...if a Kitty can't get the milk out of the good-food cold-box, a mousie can't! But I like it. The kitty looks real in the pictures and it seems like she and the mousie are having fun, playing through the whole set of rhymes. I think little humans, even if they know all these rhymes, will like this book. I give it three and a half treats. (The other treat and a half can go to the Kitty and Mousie). Picture Picture Picture New Grey Mousie and Blue Ball don't seem to want to leave the Daddies' sleep room. That's OK by me. It has become my base of operations. I spend most of my time there now and the Daddies bring my food right to me! Good Daddies! So I get to play--er keep a close eye on these two sneaky mousies...so they don't plot any evil against the household!
