If weren't for the gore, I'd swear Ilona Andrews took me on a magical fairy ride! On the Edge Review

5 STARS for On the Edge by Ilona Andrews! I took forever with this one only because I started it on a family trip. This isn't a family trip read. It's a tell your kids to fend for themselves so you can lose yourself in this other world read. I think Jack and Georgie stole the show in this one, but Declan and Rose and their slow burn was magic to watch.Rose lives her life for her two little brothers, Jack and Georgie. Works herself to the bone just to feed and clothe them. And it's not easy in the in-between world they live in. Declan is a mysterious stranger who tempts Rose into daydreams about a different life. She can't afford daydreams with a new dark magic on the loose threatening to consume everything and everyone she loves.
The world building sucked me in and held on tight. I'm not much of a fantasy reader, but everything from the magic use to the shifters were so creatively rendered, I can't wait to read the next book in the series. The tension between Rose and Declan was awesome. The constant threat of a terrible death made my heart race. The kids stole my heart. The grandma was the perfect grandma. And I loved that even the good guys gave me pause. I was giddy over the underlying romance in the story because I'm a total romance girl, but family love stood out more than anything else.
If you haven't read anything by Ilona Andrews (imagine me blinking at you in complete surprise), get on it. You'll get lost in the characters, drama, even the gore is entrancing.
