Earlier this week the Brooklyn Public Library posted this photo on its Facebook page. Summer slide is real—kids lose many of the skills they gained during the school year unless they remain engaged during the summer months. If you haven’t already signed your child up for a summer reading program, consider buying them some of the books recommended by Teaching for Change. They’ve just posted their summer picks and I’m proud to haveMax Loves Muñecas! included. I’m already working on my fall list—I think I want to publish 2 more picture books and my middle grade novel An Angel for Mariqua. I visited a charter school last week and at least three teachers came up to ask about the sequel to A Wish After Midnight. So even though I’m heading to Senegal next month to work on The Return, I will plan to finish Judah’s Tale first. Really—I promise!
