utopYA Work Around
Jennifer is a sad panda.
I’m also the Harbinger of Airport doom.
Due to yet another adventurous flight experience, I will be missing this year’s utopYA in Nashville. For those who weren’t following my airport adventures yesterday, our plane was originally delayed due to late arriving aircraft from Canada. Then our plane got there, but we had no flight crew. Or the crew disappeared. Or the crew was invisible. Either way, we were continuously delayed until they told us our flight crew was actually at the airport, at another gate, and would be to ours within 30 minutes. An hour went by and no flight crew, and after about 8 hours at the airport, they cancelled the flight. Meanwhile, a lot of other flights were being cancelled for other reasons, which caused all the hotels surrounding Dulles AND Reagan International (both are huge international airports) to book up. After being told our flight was cancelled, we all had to wait in a huge customer service line that was being serviced by one United rep. One. So by the time I made it to her, all the flights out of Dulles for today (Thursday) were booked and I’d just missed the last flight out of Reagan that would’ve put me into Nashville Thursday night. So that meant I was left with Friday, but since I cannot drive long distances (the airport is over an hour away from home) due to the eye disease I have, my husband usually drives me, which conflicts with the rest of the available flight schedules. The actually rebooked me randomly for flight there was no way in holy heck I’d be able to get to, but yeah, thanks for the random bookage United.
Sometimes these things happen. They suck. They suck because I’m super disappointed in not being able to go. They suck because I can’t just hop in a car and drive the distance. They suck because I have to be careful of layovers due to swollen eye vessels and decompression, which apparently can be problematic. Who knew? They suck because I feel bad for those who are coming to the event and wanted to meet me.
There’s just a whole lot of suckage right there.
But I wanted to be able to offer those who are attending utopYA or planning on coming to the signing Friday with something. I don’t keep bookplates on hand, but what I’m going to do is order a limited number for those who are at the event and have books they wanted me to sign. So here’s how this going to work.
- Please limit the request of bookplates to 5 since I’m ordering them in.
- Please PLEASE do not ask for bookplates if you are not attending utopYA or the signing. I will not have an unlimited supply and it would be a double suck for those who were attending to then not get a bookplate because they were sent to someone else.
1. If you are registered for utopYA, please send proof of registration and your name and mailing address to jenniferlarmentrout@live.com and I will send bookplates as soon as I get them in.
2. If you were just attending the signing, please send proof of some kind of receipt that shows you were in Nashville on June 20, name and address to jenniferlarmentrout@live.com
Since I was planning to be at utopYA during this time, I’m actually going to use this unexpected writing time wisely and try to catch up to my deadline. So I will be a hit or miss online the next couple of days.
