A Penetrating Question

Every so often, my spiritual director begins our time of soul care with a simple but deeply penetrating question. It always causes me to pause and reflect. There is no simple answer, and there is no way to dodge it. You cannot beat around the bush, but must tackle it head on. Stock answers fall short. Authenticity, vulnerability, and transparency are absolutely essential.

That simple but deeply penetrating question is this: “How is it with your soul?”
