Also premiering at ALA Las Vegas later this month will be the prototype for my Future Builder. A primitive version of this technology has existed through the years, often called a Fortune Teller or a Cootie Catcher. This technology, however, starts with the four elementary particles that make up everything you see (and many things you don’t see), everything you touch, everything you breath…up and down quarks, electrons, and gluons. These four particles combine in different ways to make everything that matters to you and everything that doesn’t. That person who seems so different or speaks a different language? Your dog? A cockroach? This computer you’re using right now, the book on your desk, the paper in your book? Everything you see is just a different combination of up and down quarks, electrons, and gluons.
The Future Builder smashes these four elementary particles up to make atoms, the basic building blocks of everything around you, the things that combine to make a book different than your dog. Hydrogen is 3 up quarks, 3 down quarks, one electron, and many gluons. Oxygen is 24 up quarks, 24 down quarks, eight electrons, and many more gluons. Water is two hydrogens and an oxygen, so is therefor 30 up quarks, 30 down quarks, 10 electrons, and many, many gluons.
Once we build atoms we can combine them to make whatever we want. Would you like to be a Cognitive Pirate? A Roboticist? An Immortal Upload?
When we start from elementary particles, we can build anything. It takes work, it takes vision…but the reward is, literally, anything you could possibly want. So be sure to pick up your prototype device at ALA Las Vegas (Jason Rodriguez, Artist Alley Table 2132), and be sure to get TRY LOOKING AHEAD when it’s released in April, 2015 from Rosarium Publishing.
(Note - you can also get preview copies of Colonial Comics: New England, 1620-1750, Colonial Character trading cards, and a smile!)
