Smashwords or Draft2Digital?

I recently found myself in a discussion about the ebook publishing company Smashwords vs newcomer Draft2Digital. The competition has been good for Smashwords in that I have received regular emails regarding updates that authors have been asking for and I have to believe that D2D is the reason.

It started with an eBook revolution.

Yet, it needed competition – enter Kobo, B&N Nook, Apple iBookstore and Sony Reader – all vying for a piece of the market. What they didn’t have right at the start was a veritable challenger to the might of Kindle and some say they still don’t.



You’ll probably notice straight away that the aforementioned companies are American based and some – Nook being a major one – don’t allow international, including UK and Australian publishers, to publish through them. You have to be American based. Along with the major eBook sellers, the smaller ones started to appear and suddenly there was a distribution issue.
