Simple Makes & Simple Pleasures

When life gets busy it is more important than ever to enjoy the simple pleasures in life – and with that (for me, anyway) comes simple makes!

For the next few weeks I feel as though every single second of my days are accounted for – there is little wiggle room for slacking off or indulging in anything frivolous. I like busy, which is a good thing, but I also know that a girl can live on busy alone – even if it is the busy that goes right ahead and pays the bills!

One of the things that I love to do while working at the sewing machine, knitting, walking the dog, taking and editing photographs and doing house chores is to listen to audiobooks and a few of my fave bands. It breaks the silence and monotony of stitching a zillion seams, without being to distracting that I find myself zoning out and making stupid mistakes.

Marshall MainThis year my birthday gift was a pair of amazing Marshall Major headphones – these couldn’t be more perfect for me and they couldn’t have come into my life at a more perfect time. It was love at first listen – true love!

Marshall 2While I love that these beauts fold neatly to make them more portable – I’m notorious for getting into a tangle with cables, and I seem to have a huge amount of cables in my daily life! So, with the five minutes between finishing up work and making a start on cooking supper I decided I’d whizz up a neat little leather cable tidy!

Marshall 1Yup, this is just about the most simple thing that I have made in the longest time. But, man does it work like a charm! Don’t you just love that when a simple idea for a simple make works out first time? There was no sketching, measuring, fretting over supplies – which is so unlike me! Just grabbing the materials and going for it!

I’m pretty chuffed with how this worked out – it’s so simple that it couldn’t really fail, right? Now, I want to work on a collection of different little leather tidies for all my cables – imagine how tidy and organised all my gadgets will be! I consider this simple little make a prototype, and now when I get a spare five minutes I’m going to work on more ideas, perhaps with a little more careful consideration to the gadgets that I have to see if I can create a whole host of these handy little leather tidies!

Is there anything more satisfying than a quick, simple make?
