King John, a martyred countess, and a fun Game of Thrones quiz

On the medieval historical front, May 27, 1199 was the day when John finally got his wish and was crowned King of England, the first and last monarch to bear the name John, which may be seen in itself as a commentary on his reign. And on May 27, 1541, Henry VIII committed one of his most appalling judicial murders, executing Margaret Pole, Countess of Salisbury, on a trumped-up charge of treason. The accounts of the beheading of the frail, sixty-eight year old woman, his cousin, George of Clarence’s daughter, and one of the last surviving members of the Plantagenet dynasty, are already well known, so I’ll leave it at that, feeling that dwelling upon them would be a grim way to begin the day.
And since we Game of Thrones addicts were denied our fix on Sunday, here is a fun quiz for my women readers. I approached it thinking, “ABC—anyone but Cersei!” But I turned out to be Margaery Tyrell, which is cool since the wonderful Natalie Dormer has breathed such life into her character for the HBO series. Neither Margaery nor Tywin had made much of an impression on me in the books, but Natalie and Charles Dance have been absolutely amazing on-screen.

Iset I'm Daenerys! Figures - through some of the questions I was muttering to myself "Girly girl or tomboy? Why isn't there an in between choice? I'm me, I do whatever I want and still feel secure as a woman" or "Covered up or showing skin? Again, third option please?!" Seems like Daenerys I'm the type to kick out at neat pigeonholed stereotypes too.

Sharon Daenerys is a good alter ego to have though, Isis. She is one of my favorites. Though I was okay with being Maergery because of the way Natalie Dormer plays her. I posted this on my Facebook pages and it was quite interesting. The women who took the test were either Brienne or Daenerys, with a few Maergarys like me. But no Aryas, no Sansas, no Catelyns, and thankfully, no Cerseis! I wouldn't have minded being the Diana Rigg character, either, for she usually got the best lines.

Iset I think Margaery and Daenerys both refuse to conform, but Margaery works from within to achieve what she wants, whilst Daenerys openly opposes what she believes to be wrong. On the subject of Sansa, she started off incredibly naive, but with all the hard life lessons she's experienced I can imagine her becoming a shrewd lady later in life. Arya I fear may become twisted by vengeance and lose sight of humanity, even though she starts out more likable than Sansa due to not being as naive and being more of a determined character.

Mimi I got Daenerys also.

Tedders I was surprised to get Brienne, but I could not be happier.

Sharon Brienne and Daenerys are good alter egos, too.

Rebecca I also got Brienne...I was terrified of ending up a Cersei and having to make a quick appointment with a psychiatrist, pronto!

And Brienne is tall! I can live with that lol.

Sharon I like Brienne. On my Facebook pages, my readers were usually Brienne or Daenerys, with a few Maergarys like me. No Cerseis, no Aryas, no Sansas, no Catelyns, and no crazy Lysas. I wouldn't mind being Maergary's grandmother, though; Diana Rigg got some of the best lines

Rebecca Brienne is one of my favourites and as for Diana Rigg I do hope she'll be seen in season 5....There are so many characters leaving this season and Diana was such fun!
