What Would You Change?
"Rita pondered her situation further and realised that no matter what she did – whether she acted as herself at 29 years old or attempted to act as herself at 16 – things would not be the same. She could not remember every little thing she had said and every decision she had made since the beginning of 1997. Things would be different whether she wanted them to be or not – she could not simply re-enact her life the way it had been.”

If you could go back to a certain point in your life, knowing that no matter what you did, things would change, would you do it?
It’s an amazing concept to ponder really. Has every action or omission in my life led me to this point? Would I be somewhere else, doing something else, or with someone else if I had done something differently? Is anything in my life “fixed” or “meant to be”? What could I be sacrificing in an attempt to make things better?
I loved it that writing this book caused me to think through some of these ideas in my own life. I love it that readers of the book have told me that they have done the same. So often we find ourselves saying that we wish we could have done something differently in our lives. Sometimes we really, really do. But at other times, perhaps what happened, needed to happen. Perhaps there was a reason. Perhaps we’re not always in control.
