He did it by wowing his new boss, Tom Gores, in a heavily paperworked, 61/2-hour meeting that started for Van Gundy at 4:30 in the morning in Florida and finished 24 hours later, in Gores' Los Angeles office.
Amazingly, no caffeine was involved.
