A Note on Publishing through Createspace

Createspace offers matte finishes for books, yet I’ve noticed that most indies and small presses go with glossy. Why is this? If you pick up trade paperbacks from the big dogs (King, Palahniuk, Tartt, and many more) their finishes are almost always matte. Also, choosing matte negates the possibility that the lamination will separate from the cover, making your book seem as if it’s shedding skin, which is a huge problem for readers in humid regions.. Food for thought.

Gef Only thing that bugs me about TPBs is how the front and back covers will curl like fiddleheads. Not always the case, but it's such an annoyance when I close a book, set it on the table, and the front cover coils up like a spring.
