1) What am I working on?
I am almost half finished with the third book in a hot contemporary series I am writing for Sourcebooks. This is a unique contemporary cowboy series with a whole new twist! The series is set in Montana with a diverse cast of characters. SLOW HAND features a Georgia native who loses her ID and the smooth talking cowboy lawyer who comes to her rescue. ROUGH RIDER is a second chances love story featuring a the attorney’s gruff older brother, who’s struggling to save the family ranch and his former flame, a female rodeo stock contractor. STRAIGHT SHOOTER (Book #3) features a hero who is a Wyoming hunting guide and former Marine scout Sniper while the heroine is a wildlife biologist/conservationist. SILVER TONGUE (Book #4) features a Native American Horse-Whisperer who is forced to work for the documentary film-maker who destroyed his reputation and livelihood. This series promises to deliver the unexpected! The first book, SLOW HAND, is slated for release in November 2014. I also just signed a three book deal with Kensington for a scorching hot Las Vegas set series called HOTEL RODEO. It’s going to be a busy year!
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
I take research very seriously. All of my historical romances include real events and real people as secondary characters. I also deeply research my contemporary romances in order to create characters that are believable and with whom readers can identify. I also endeavor to weave my stories woven around relevant issues and struggles that I hope readers will be able to relate to.
3) Why do I write what I do?
I write whatever my muse inspires me to write. I have very little control over my creative process. When a story comes to life for me I have to write it. I am also an independent thinker, who enjoys turning traditional tropes upside down. My ultimate goal is to deliver a story that is fresh and original. I tend to break a lot of rules in the process.
4) How does my writing process work?
My books all begin like a giant puzzle that I have to piece together as I go! There is minimal planning and plotting in my process. I usually begin with a single scene in my head and the story just evolves from there. Much of what I write comes together as I research.
