EJ2 Update: It’s Done!

Hey everyone.

Well, it’s 6:48 pm Pacific time on Wednesday, May 7th, and I just completed the final chapter for the rough draft of Earthman Jack vs. The Secret Army.

I.  Am.  So.  Happy.

The first book took me 4 years to write, working on it sporadically as I found the time and inspiration to do so.  This book took me two months of intensive writing, working pretty much 8 hours a day every single day.  The final page count, not including any pages devoted to titles and dedications or stuff like that, is around 590 manuscript pages.  The final word count is 245,245.  This is the longest freakin’ thing I’ve ever written, and my brain is fried.  I’ve basically been locked in my house for two months straight, chained to my desk, doing nothing but writing (and occasionally eating and going to the bathroom).

It was a struggle at times, but over-all, I’m very happy with how the book turned out.  The ending portion was especially fun to write, and it went extremely quickly compared to the beginning and middle.  The plan now is to take the rest of the week off and veg out in front of the TV while I binge-watch all the shows that have accumulated on my DVR in my absence.  Once I’ve recuperated, I’ll return to the draft and start reading through it from the beginning to start the rewriting process.  I wrote everything in bits and pieces, so now it’s time to go back through and re-read it as a whole and make notes of any errors or issues I come across.  I’ll probably make 3 passes through the book before I move on to the next phase, which will be having beta readers evaluate it for me.

Whew.  Well, I am spent!  But I just wanted to go on the record and say The Secret Army is now complete.
