Cold Coffee Author Spotlight Interview With Christopher Hudson

Quote From Author Christopher Hudson: "As on-and-off denizen of cubeville, I have written and produced many corporate videos and marketing projects. As an author, I have two published books, NORTHERN CROSS and HEADWIND, and a couple of screenplays."

Interview:

What makes you proud to be a writer from Michigan? Well, writer or no, I’m a proud Michigander. I just like being from a place where you can use your hand to indicate a location.

What or who inspired you to become a writer? Finding myself unemployed with no other marketable skills.

When did you begin writing with the intention of becoming published? I had written the manuscript for my first book, Northern Cross with no particular goal in mind, until my sister read it and thought I ought to look into getting it published. That led to a long, strange and frustrating trip ... but we managed to get ‘er done.

Did your environment or upbringing play a major role in your writing and why? Not so much my environment, but I’d have to say my upbringing (and later life situations) did. My parents were creative folks who encouraged that element in me. Then there was my ‘day job’... I wrote a lot of videos and other training materials for the corporate world. As uncomfortable as I was in that role, I have to say it honed my writing skills and taught me how accept criticism about my work without taking it personally.

Do you come up with your title (s) before or after you write the manuscript (s)? After ... and no easy task, I might add.

Tell us why you write the genre (s) that you write? Fun stories and interesting characters are my idea of entertainment in fiction ... so, that’s what I try to write. I figure if I’m entertained, maybe someone else will be too.

Tell us your most rewarding experience while in the writing process? I’m not sure how to answer that question ... writing for me is hard ... not tarring a roof on a 90 degree day type of hard ... but a finish your homework before you can go out and play ball type of hard. I’d usually rather be playing ball. That said, I do enjoy creating the dialogue between my characters ... I really don’t know what they are going to say or do until they are responding to something somebody said or a situation ... that part is fun.

Tell us your most negative experience while in the writing process? Forcing myself to focus for extended periods of times ... I’d usually rather be playing ball ... well, now of days, that be watching a ballgame.

Tell us your most rewarding experience in your publishing journey? Seeing my books in print (and, later on Kindle).

Tell us your most negative experience in your publishing journey? Marketing. I hate it, and, either because of that or some other innate deficiency, I’m terrible at it.

What one positive piece of advice would you give to other authors? Write about stuff you enjoy and stick to it ... even kicking out few hundred words a day. Sooner or later you’ll end up with a book. Hey, if I can do it, anyone can.

Who is your favorite author? That’s a tough one ... kinda like choosing your favorite child ... but if pressed, I’d have to say Elmore Leonard (Hey, he’s from Michigan too ... hmmmm).

Is there anything else that you would like to share with us? When I’m not writing (or watching a ballgame), I’m messing around with music. I play guitar and sing (well, I call it singing) whenever I get the chance.
