Joseph weeps

imagesGen 42:24 And he turned himself about from them, and wept; and returned to them again, and communed with them, and took from them Simeon, and bound him before their eyes.

The Bible speaks of a time when all the tears of the saints will be wiped away. There are many categories of tears and different sources of pain. There are also tears of overwhelming joy. May we cry for joy someday. Joseph cannot bear that He must cause such pain and such discomfort to his brother Simeon and looks away for a season. God also looked away as Christ was subjected to the most cruel death man could devise for His only begotten son. How true it is that blood relations have strong feelings for each other.

What are your feelings concerning other brethren? Are you pained at their wanderings which God permits. Do we sorrow for souls still enjoying sin, knowing many are chosen by God for salvation. Or do we weep only for ourselves and our perceived losses. The love of God that is in us separates us with a compassion for the lost and for other brethren … a compassion that has caused many to abandon great treasures and take great risks … crossing vast oceans to strange lands.

The Christian is not always happy … but the root of his tears are unique and peculiar. Most importantly, his tears are all destined to be wiped away. Not so for the lost soul. He may never have cause to cry in his wickedness, but he will weep bitterly at the non-negotiable prospect of admission into eternal damnation. His cynical and wicked grins will all be wiped off his face forever.

All weep. The question is what for and when? How will it be in your case? When will you weep?

Song.

Though with a scornful wonder, men see her sore oppressed

By schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed,

Yet saints their watch a keeping, their cry goes up “how long?”,

And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

‘Mid toil and tribulation, And tumult of her war,

She wait the consummation of peace for evermore

Till with the vision glorious … her longing eyes are blest,

And the Great Church victorious … shall be the Church at rest.

Prayer: O Lord, Comfort me. Amen
