There are going to be a couple C2E2 posts, since I’m breaking them up a little bit.

Check out all my Gail Simone (gailsimone) stuff from C2E2! Forgive my complete deer in the headlights look there in the picture. My friends had to pretty much threaten to drag me over to say hello because I’m actually pretty bad at saying hello. (No really, way more social anxiety over here than you’d think.)

Anyway, meeting Gail Simone was freaking awesome. I think I ran into her a total of like… 4 times? That sounds right, because twice on Friday, once on Saturday after her panel, and once on Sunday after I finally found what was apparently the only booth that stocked The Movement. On Friday she signed Steph’s Batgirl for me at like the crack of opening (the horror of being at C2E2 at opening I will save for another post) and I bought the Secret Six script on Friday as well. I also went to her Dark Horse Presents panel on Friday, which was pretty amazing. Saturday I was at the Gay Creators and Gay Characters panel, which she was on, and the photo was snagged in the hallway outside the panel. It was a fantastic panel, by the way, and infinitely better than the queer characters panel I went to at 2012 C2E2, which was made up of all gay white dudes who, when questioned, said they “weren’t familiar” with Batwoman. (SERIOUSLY?!) Sunday I got The Movement #1 signed, and was at the panel moderated by racebending.com.

Gail was more amazing than I really have words for, to be honest. Like I knew from other people’s commentary that she was awesome, but I did not expect that amongst a sea of hundreds of faces she would seem to recognize me each time I talked to her. That’s just… unbelievably impressive. Also it was pretty funny to watch how legit excited she looks when she spots someone cosplaying one of her characters.

Although the hidden, completely unexpected treasure of the whole weekend, I have to admit, was kind of Gail’s husband. (Whos name I can’t seem to find by Googling, so I sincerely apologize). He was every bit as friendly as Gail was, and at one point invited me to come back by the booth when it wasn’t so busy (best I could tell there wasn’t really a not busy time from that point on, however). But when I was talking with both of them in the hall outside the panel I mentioned that getting Steph’s comic signed meant a lot since she had passed away, he was so genuinely concerned about whether I was okay that he kept convincing me to follow on down the hall for a bit. It was really touching.

This won’t be my last post about C2E2, it was just the one I was the most excited to post!

Of COURSE I remember you and it was delightful to meet you and your friends! I am looking forward to coming back to C2E2 again so we can catch up and thank you for the incredibly kind words!

I am so sorry about your friend, Stephanie. I don’t think I heard that part properly at the time. But yeah, my hubby was concerned, he says he is glad you are doing okay and that we are both thinking of you!
