What the Heck Was I Thinking?!

It has been a busy couple of months for me, and it’s not over yet! In fact, as April draws to a close, the busier I seem to get, and with good reason. At the beginning of the year, I got the bright idea to launch a new romantic suspense series in sort of a crazy way – why not release 4 small novellas all at the same time, followed exactly one month later by a full-length novel? Sounds like a great idea, right?

Well, it turns out that releasing 4 novellas all at once is a HUGE undertaking. First of all, you’ve got to have 4 really great stories, remembering, of course, to keep the word counts down around 20,000 words. That sounds easy enough. But then you must have all 4 of them edited. You have to have all 4 of them formatted (if you’re like me and refuse to do that sort of thing yourself). And did I mention the 4 book covers that have to be distinctive enough to stand on their own while still being beautifully branded as parts of a series? Trust me … it’s a LOT of work!

And don’t forget the full-length novel, which needs this same editing/formatting/cover art treatment at virtually the same time, so really it’s like releasing 5 books all at once.

I’m not at all sure what I was thinking at the time, except that I know two other authors who have done this same thing, and I thought it was really ambitious and sort of a cool idea, and I wanted to try it. And once the idea was in my head there was no talking me out of it. It was full steam ahead, sleep and free time be damned! And at times, I have felt as though I were just a little bit cra-cra for even thinking it (but don’t tell anybody, that part will just be our little secret!).

But I have to say, now that I’m in the thick of it, things are starting to sort themselves out. I did an extensive cover reveal for the novellas with Goddess Fish Promotions, and now I’m working with Stephanie Biedlingmaier of Promotions by Stephanie* to promote the whole series, and I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even though I am busier than ever, and probably will be until at least the second week or so of June.

Making things even crazier is the fact that I’ve already begun working on my next project, Secrets of Lunar Falls.

It’s book one in what is, at this point, a romantic suspense/paranormal trilogy, and I’m a little bit obsessed with it right now, which is making concentration on the launch of the Kelly Family Series a challenge. Or maybe launching the Kelly Family Series is making concentration on the Lunar Falls project a challenge. Either way, I am a busy, busy girl these days, and loving every minute of it!
