Was Strix always going to be an ongoing character when she was introduced, or was she originally intended as a one-shot villain like most of the Talons from Night of the Owls?

When I created her, I thought she had great potential, but she was created with the idea of being part of the Owls storyline, which was not in my control, and originally, the idea was floated that she would meet a tragic end at the finale of her appearance in Batgirl.

When I sent the notes on the character and her full origin to my editor, she passed them on to Scott Snyder, and he said, DON’T KILL HER. He liked her, he thought she had potential.

It was never a set idea that she would die, it was a possibility (as it is for ALL new characters), but Scott saw something there he liked and he kept in contact with me and he really wanted to see something happen with her. She quickly became one of the very most popular Talons, we got lots of mail from people who wanted more of her.

I am not sure whose idea it was to put her in Birds of Prey, but I am glad because I think she brings an interesting POV to the DCU, particularly having lived many decades…that’s something we don’t have much of right now.
