A Friday Fling with Deborah Kreiser!
Today we welcome Deborah Kreiser to host my blog. She is going to put a fun ‘Three Wishes’ spin on Friday Fling (btw isn’t that cover gorgeous?). Hope you all enjoy! Turning the floor over to Deborah now.
Although my book is a total work of fiction, I do admit there are a few details that mirror true life.
Here are five similarities between real life and book life:
1. My main character, Genie, is a swimmer. I was a swimmer, swim instructor, and swim coach in high school and college.
2. Genie’s next door neighbor and BFF is named Leia, who’s inspired by one of my high school BFFs, Laila.
3. Genie’s grandmother has a huge collection of shoes, all of them black, much like my own mother.
4. A hot guy on Genie’s swim team is named Joel. Coincidentally, MY huge crush in high school was a hot guy on my swim team named Joel! And seriously. He was hot.
5. Genie’s dad’s name is Matt. If my husband and I had had a boy, we were going to name him Matthew.
Five surprising things about me:
1. I’m nearly six feet tall, but I am a terrible basketball player–not a terrible athlete, mind you, I just have no hand-eye coordination.
2. I have what’s called “relative pitch.” I can usually remember the starting note of a song, without help from a piano or pitch pipe. (It comes in handy sometimes in my a cappella group!)
3. I have gigantic feet. At age six I wore size six shoes, and they kept growing by a size each year, thankfully stopping at age 12 and size 12. Yes, it’s tough finding cute shoes.
4. I am really good at tongue twisters! The only challenge is remembering the words, but as soon as I have it, I hardly ever mess up.
5. I have a special talent for making chocolate disappear. Give me some and I’ll show you!
My five favorite Middle Grade/Young Adult main characters:
1. Percy Jackson
2. Katniss Everdeen
3. Lucy Pevensie
4. Day (Daniel Altan Wing)
5. Anne Shirley
Take a look at what Three Wishes is about. It is available now from Amazon and Barnes and Noble!
Blurb:
Tall and lanky, Genie Lowry is only noticed at academic awards assemblies—until the day she turns 17 1/2, when her body changes from Kate-Hudson-flat to Katy-Perry-curvy—and she finds out she’s a real, live genie. Suddenly, every guy at school is paying attention to her, including Pete Dillon, her never-in-a-million-years crush.
But to gain her full powers and keep her new body, Genie has to find a master, and she’s not sure if Pete’s Master (or Mr.) Right. With help from her dead mother’s interactive diary and an imposing mentor with questionable motives, Genie uncovers the family history and genie rules she never knew. She grapples with her new powers and searches for the perfect master as she tries to make her own wishes come true.
Bio:
If Deborah Kreiser had three wishes, they would include: a lifetime supply of calorie-free chocolate, a self-cleaning house, and the ability to expand time as needed. When not dreaming of her next plot, she works as a school librarian in Massachusetts, where she lives with her husband and two young daughters.
