April 6: Undeserving

Who doesn’t dream of cutting to the chase;

Of getting to the callback sans audition,

Or being the sole runner in a race,

Or acting first, then getting your permission.

Such loveliness as being interviewed

For a position that’s already yours,

Is pleasant to enjoy, though it is shrewd

To not take it for granted; ask no more.

The minute that you think that you deserve

Those privileges that result from luck,

The just-world theory posits you won’t serve

One who has less than you, that hopeless schmuck.
