R.E.M.’s Mike Mills just announced David Letterman’s retirement.

Mills and Peter Buck will be on the Late Show tonight backing Joseph Arthur, which means those two guys were on hand for something of a landmark show-business moment. Mills tweeted: “Dave just announced his retirement #2015 #muchlovedave,” effectively announcing Letterman’s retirement to the world.
