Furious voices dragged Hel out of the depths of sleep. She stumbled out of bed and stalked out. She stopped in her tracks, eyes widening at the dust-laden kid who stood just beyond the threshold. Blinding rays of sunlight were steadily creeping upward behind him. Charls was blocking him from entering the apartment, scowling at the would-be-intruder.



She hurried forward. “Kyle?”


What on earth was he even doing here?
