A Different [Time] Ring?

Something concerning the Twelfth Doctor’s costume has also been noticed as possibly being significant – a change in his ring.
It’s well known that Peter Capaldi most always wears the wedding ring he exchanged with his wife some 23 years ago even if the character he’s playing isn’t married. Fans noted back when filming began in January that he was wearing what seemed to be that same ring, a plain gold band.
But recent images show Capaldi is wearing a second ring, described as having a green stone. Whatever the significance of the ring is, we don’t think it’s compatible with a chameleon arch.
Now to this writer there also seems to be some kind of symbol or something surrounding the stone. I wonder if this will be something that we will get an explanation for or if it will be a detail whose significance will be left a mystery, one that will be left to fans to speculate about.
Given that the good Doctor is technically not married (remember, time was reset with a kiss after the “marriage” to River back in Series 6) what could this be?
