Will the public give up on space?

Fact: most commercial space initiatives will never launch. Some border on pure fantasy. Others will fail to gather the necessary funds. And expect loads to be scrapped due to real-world challenges that were missed in the design phase. Failure is real and imminent. 

The article below asserts that these impending failures will damage the overall reputation of commercial space initiatives in the minds of the public. I tend to agree, but we have a larger problem:

Most people think all commercial space flight is a farce. 

I hesitate to say most, as I've done no polling to validate my assertion. But ask around to your less-than-scientifically-literate friend-set, and you'll notice a pattern of ignorance. 

To me, that's hurdle number one. Reputation management? That's a problem to be solved in five years. If we're lucky.
