RIP Comics Legend Steve Moore, 1949-2014

The Doctor Who comics community has come together to praise the life and work of the extraordinary writer, contributor and editor, Steve Moore, who passed away at the weekend.

Moore, a knowledgeable, humorous writer with a warmth that pervaded all of his work, was a long-standing editor and contributor to The Fortean Times magazine from the beginning, as well as the creator of 2000AD‘s Future Shocks, of Red Fang and Valkyries, of Lazer Erazer and Axel Pressbutton, a contributor to Warrior Magazine, 2000AD, Doctor Who Magazine and so much more.

He was also the subject of Alan Moore’s novella, gallery and album, Unearthing; and was cited by the Watchman creator as being a principal creative influence since they first became friends during childhood.

Writer and former editor of 2000AD Andy Diggle, took to Twitter to pay respects to Moore’s legacy and his generosity:

DWM also doffed their caps and acknowledged his ground breaking work for the magazine:

While Al Kennedy, co-host of Comics podcast House to Astonish, summed up just how important Moore’s standing was with anyone who picked up a copy of DWM or 2000AD during their formative years:

If you ever enjoyed Future Shocks in 2000AD, you can thank Steve Moore, who came up with the idea. RIP.

At the time of his passing, Moore was working on the Bumper Book of Magic with Alan Moore for Top Shelf and Knockabout.

His influence on Doctor Who was considerable, having created Kroton the Cyberman and Dalek Killer Abslom Daak, and written some major strips including Dragon’s Claw.

Kasterborous would like to extend our condolences to his family, friends and those influenced by his work at this difficult time.
