Everyone is going to have an opinion about Fred Phelps. The man, without question, is controversial at best, and anti-human at worst. Currently, he sits on the edge of death. Something I’ve always attempted to practice is passive, peaceful diplomacy, something the Westboro Baptist Church has not a single iota of. Do I feel terrible that this man is on the edge of death? Yes; I hate that any human being needs to die. But his legacy, his actions, and his ideas will not die with him. That sort of corrosive, disgusting, anti-equality SHOULD die, but the fact that it remains here in the minds of those he taught is what truly makes me sad.
