he Saw it Written

in Chalk

on the Sidewalk

directly in front

of a looming House.

He stopped.

He looked around.

He looked back down.

There was More.

He read further:

THEY SEE U.

And then:

THEY DONT LIKE U.

And what does that mean, he wondered.

As though in response,

even further below

was a Stick Man

with x’s for Eyes

and a thick red Line

drawn thru—the Throat.

Blood?

He stopped.

He looked back up.

He thought he was Alone . . .
