I can read fast and retain what I read. It's because I do this for a living. I can flip through a newspaper and tell you later what part of the paper I saw the article and do a mental precise about its meaning. Reading fast is good. Very good. But, there's something to be said for taking one's time. I do this with good writers. I stop and think and roll my favourite phrases around on my tongue. I'm not there yet. I hope one day to be the kind of writer that reader's savour. Yeah, there's more money in fast but like fast fashion, the seams start to fray pretty darned quickly.
