Writing Process Blog Tour

Welcome to the continuing Writing Process Blog Tour where authors are invited to answer the same four questions.  My thanks to Lynn Cahoon who invited me to join the tour group.

What am I working on?

I am promoting the first book in my paranormal romance trilogy, VEILED SECRETS. The second book, VEILED ENCHANTMENT, will be out later this year.

Here’s a snippet about VEILED SECRETS. Enjoy!

“When Fairies and Demons collide, all hell breaks loose.”

Celeste Hart has never been accepted by society because of her dark visions and has vowed to let nothing stop her from uncovering what she is, good, bad or evil. But she is distracted from her quest when sexy Eric Nordstrom charms his way into her heart and into her bed. He leaves her even more confused by her intense feelings for him and she soon realizes their one night of passion has resulted in something that will change them forever, a child.

CEO Eric Nordstrom has no interest romance and even less in a relationship. His company has always been his mistress, but he can’t stop thinking about the elusive Celeste, who has made him feel more in one night than he has in his entire lifetime. When he learns of the pregnancy, he convinces Celeste to marry him on the pretense of keeping the company from another scandal while trying to seduce her back into his arms.

While Celeste tries to fit into Eric’s elite world, she discovers her visions are a result of having Fae blood. When the vengeful Queen of the Fairies sends a demon army to take her unborn child, Celeste must embrace her fairy heritage and enlist Eric’s help in her fight. Thrust into a world he doesn’t understand yet determined to protect the woman he loves, Eric joins forces with Celeste to protect their unborn child from the evil that has invaded their home.

Fate brought them together, will destiny rip them apart?

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I write paranormal romance, which is sub-genre of romance which blends fantasy with romance, my two favorite topics! My characters, even though they have supernatural abilities, still have to deal with real life difficulties, just on a much stronger level.  Nothing says I love you like giving up your life to protect your woman from a demon. *wink*

Why do I write what I do?

I’ve always loved fairy tales, even now. I want my characters to have super human abilities, whether they are fairies or werewolves, so that they can overcome impossible odds and make the villain pay.

How does your writing process work?

I try to write during the week and take the weekend off to be with my family. Balancing writing and family obligations has been a struggle. This year I’m learning how to manage my time better and “be in the moment” instead of thinking of my next story.

I am a pantser. I hate plotting. But I do start with a rough outline of where I want the story to go. Once I have that, I start writing. I  write anywhere from 10 to 20 pages a day to get my first draft done. After it’s done, I don’t look at it for a week. I go back and start revising it. It then goes to my critique partner who gives me her valued opinion.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.

Your next traveling companions are :

A fifth generation Texan, Jodi Thomas chooses to set the majority of her novels in her home state. When not working on a novel or inspiring students to pursue a writing career, Thomas enjoys traveling with her husband, Tom, renovating a historic home they bought in Amarillo, and “checking up” on their two grown sons.

Gina Danna is a historian living in historic St. Louis, Missouri where her love of history has led her to two degrees in it, working as a museum educator and curator, being a Civil War reenactor and college instructor, typing her historical romance novels under the guidance of her three dogs, three cats, and her horse.

KC Klein is an award winning, multi-published author who’s lived most of her life with her head in the clouds and nose buried in a book. She did stop reading long enough to make a home with a real life hero, her husband, for over eighteen years. A mother of two precious girls, she spends her time slaying dragons, saving princesses, and championing the belief in the happily-ever-after.
