The Power of a Series

As anyone who follows me is probably aware, Fates the 4th book in my I Bring the Fire series was just released.

It was my best release ever. Since it went live (2 days ago?) I’ve sold over 100 copies—for now at the price of $2.99. That isn’t a lot compared to Hugh Howey, or Lindsay Buroker —or the 10,000 authors in line ahead of me on the Amazon rankings, but for me, it’s awesome. Today I got my first reviews, except for one, they’re reviews of the series from fans who haven’t read Fates, but who are enthusiastic about doing so. I won’t complain…I hope Fates doesn’t let them down.

Even with my fanfic audience, I didn’t get these numbers when I released Murphy’s Star, I Bring the Fire, Monsters, Chaos, or In the Balance. Every time I release, a few more people know my name and are willing to take a leap of faith in my writing. (I actually have people finding my original fiction and going back and reading ALL my fanfic because they can’t wait for me to release again. How awesome is that?)

I am so glad I’ve put myself out there. I have a 10 year plan to becoming a full-time author, and this release makes that goal feel more and more possible.

Thanks everyone out there for your support…and for everyone waiting to write the perfect novel, let me say, even if at first you don’t succeed, keep trying.

(Also, thank you elementarydata for making me create a fan page—really good business decision!)
