Literary Lunacy in NYC (A Multi-Post Story): Part 5 (the end)

I sat perched on a stool in a studio, my back facing a green screen and my front facing a huge video camera flanked by blinding lights. To my right was a bag of clothes and shoes I had brought as options for my author interview. Erin, who was in charge of the HarperCollins shoot, had chosen the only non-black items in the bag, a plum-colored shell topped with a red wildly-patterned cardigan I hadn't dared wear since I bought it a few months before in Rio. Since the shoot would be from waist-u...

oliviasbooks *Screams* That's why you ended up crying in a drag-queen-bar. What a wonderful conclusion of your first "famous author experience".
I laughed particularly hard when I read:
'The last time someone else had done my makeup, I had ended up looking like a cross between an alien and Lady Gaga with a hangover.
“Trust us,” Melissa responded. “You look great.”'

Can I add that to my favorite quotes?

And ... I am with Lawrence: I am sure the interview didn't look as bad as you've thought. Your editor wants to make money with your book. So she won't allow you to be displayed as a complete idiot. But I do understand your concern: You might not look and sound like the you you know you are. And I wish they had let you wear the shirts you feel comfortable in.

Amy Plum Ha! Thanks, Olivia. Glad it made you laugh. I don't even know what to expect now of the video, but have volunteered to fly myself back to do another one! My editor promised that if it is truly awful, she'll let me reshoot. And this time, I'm memorizing the whole thing!

Susan My daughter just did the shoot a couple of weeks ago for the cover of your book coming out next year! We are so excited and cannot wait to see it and to read the books! Keep us posted on the progress!

Amy Plum No way! The stunningly beautiful Michelle?

HarperCollins sent me a link to her APM portfolio page to approve for the book covers and I said "yes" after one glance. I even tweaked Kate's eye color in the book because Michelle's were so beautiful that I thought it merited the change since she would be gracing the cover. (Kate's eyes were blue-gray before. Now they're blue-green.)

I will be posting the book cover on my website as soon as I get it, which should be a week or so, but if you give me an email address for you or Michelle I will send it to her first! (you can send it to amy@amyplumbooks.com)

Thanks so much for contacting me. I was intrigued by this girl who was embodying Kate on my book cover, and it's a such a treat to hear from you!

oliviasbooks Wow, Susan, you must be so proud! You and your daughter simply have to read the book. In a week, Amy? I am looking forward.

Amy Plum Olivia - my editor told me she'd have something to show me when I got back from vacation. But, now that I think of it, I'm not sure it will be the final version, or if they're going to ask for my input and tweak it. I'll definitely keep everyone up-to-date!

Amy Plum And Susan - Olivia is one of the few "outsiders" (meaning not friend, family, or editors) who has read the book. She read it for the publisher who bought the rights for Germany. So she had a sneak preview, but I'll let you know when it's available!

Susan OMG Amy! I just read your post to my whole family and we are so excited about your book and now totally excited that Michelle's beautiful eyes inspired you to change Kate's eyes in the book! That is AMAZING! We all cannot wait to see the finished product and to read your book and it's sequels! I will email you with my email address and Michelle's so we can keep in touch and if they make a movie, Michelle said she wants a crack at the role LOL! Looking forward to hearing from you soon and thanks again for the great compliments and comments. We are all beaming here!

Susan Thanks Olivia! We cannot wait to read it and we will have all of our family (Michelle has a 15 year old brother and 18 cousins who are HUGE readers!) read it as well!
