I guess I like to Do-It-Myself

So here I am thinking, "Okay I'm doing a giveaway on goodreads, and that's good for right now but when that ends in 2 weeks I wanna do a different promotional stunt for my novel." I've been seeing a lot of gimmicky sites for virtual blog tours. I've seen everything from "they don't do anything for your book, it's a waste of money, and all you're doing is wasting your time," to "this tour has been the gretest thing to hapen to me, my sales have tripled since I've done it." Now I google every site I plan to do business with, accompanied with the word scam or complaints. So this site AbsoluteWrite had a forum posted about Orangeberry booktours where they discredited the site, but then that linked to another site which started bashing goodreads. At the end of all the googling and cyberbullying, I felt so drained. But most of all a bit discouraged in that I want to give certain companies a chance but to see them bicker back and forth on a forum is so distasteful and unprofessional that I don't wanna be bothered. I still want to do a book tour, virtual and real, but as with every thing else I've had to do on my own during this publishing process, I fear that this is yet another thing that I'm going to have to carve time out to learn and organize on my own.
