Novel Number Three is Go!!
Finally! I need to shorten this ridiculous between novels time.So back in June (July?) I finished novel number two, called Breathing Underwater. (Novel number one, fyi, is called The Keeper). For several reasons, including moving across the country and life just generally being crazy for the past several months, I haven't started novel three until now. (I am not happy about this, whatever the level of chaos life has had lately, and I'm going to fix that for next time although hopefully life will continue to be as relatively calm as it is now *knock on wood *fingers crossed)
Anyway, I am beyond excited about this new idea. I've been high-gear brainstorming it the past couple weeks, and haven't been able to sleep for quite a few nights. This novel, like Breathing Underwater, is YA with a female protagonist. Keeper is adult contemporary and the main character is a 40 year old man. If you had told me three years ago that I would be choosing to write YA and loving it I wouldn't have believed you. If you had told me three years ago that I would be working on novel number three without being published or even getting an agent and not just that but be okay with it, I would also not have believed you.
The thing is, with eyes and trajectory pointed forward, the past matters only in as much as it pushes me towards a successful future, and both the practice and repertoire that comes from writing two novels is definitely that, even if they are not published. And it doesn't entirely matter that I haven't had an agent in the past because I am still just as determined, if not more so, to find the right match for me as quickly and effectively as possible, and I'm still working on that. I trust that the journey will work out how it needs to work out, and if that means that this new novel is my breakthrough novel, then that will be fantastic. I still have faith in the other two, and am pushing them same as ever, but the key is to keep moving forward and I trust that something will work out.
Because in the meantime, it's the story that matters, and nothing is as joyous as loving the story you're telling. I remind myself to just immerse myself in the story and that's what's important and the rest will come as it comes. And I trust that it will come.
Anyway, that's my news. Your turn! What projects are you working on lately?
