DANNYsDOM 600x800

Danny has always known he was submissive. So when a tall, dark, handsome man saves him from an abusive encounter in New Orleans, who’s to question the knight in shining armor? Fast forward two years and Danny’s man is now his Dom, providing for his every need. But just what kind of business keeps Him away so often and calls Him off in the middle of the day? What makes Danny’s Master keep secrets from him? When things aren’t adding up, questions arise and it’s time to learn the truth. Who is Danny’s Dom?

Only finding out the truth just may surprise him with an element of chill to add to their already smoldering one.

I begin my review surprised, pleasantly so, that this novella is a first effort.   Not generally being a fan of the commonly underdeveloped plot and characters of the novella, I am even more impressed that this first effort pretty much nails all the elements of what a good one should be.

From a purely clinical analysis, this work begins, proceeds and ends with a clear course of events.   Timeline changes are well evident and do not detract from the flow of the story, in fact they enhance the read, providing background detail without being ponderous narrative.  The flow makes sense.  The characters make sense, and the world is immediately evident; you are there as a fly on the wall…or the ice as the case may be…

As far as “the read” itself, my connection to the characters was immediate and they were likeable.   That’s my first litmus test.   I wanted to invest in their story because they appealed to me as “people”, and because of the way the supernatural element at once snuck up on you, and fit seamlessly.   Though the fae world tends to be my last ‘go-to’ in the paranormal realm because its complexity tends to be too much for my patience and more often than not detracts from my enjoyment, I felt none of my usual confusion and frustration.

And finally, at the end of the day, a story for me is always all about the love story and the commitment, and this one is touching and true in the extreme.

If this is a first effort, I am beyond amazed at the level of concept to delivery; of both character and world development, of almost tangible heart and soul, and that all of it took place in the almost impossible Art known as the novella.   I usually end a novella review, even a good novella, with “I wish there had been more”.     While that may also be true with Danny’s Dom, it in no way left me feeling that there needed to be more.   It was a completely satisfying read.

And if I may, a final short note to Mr. Hasse:  legacy firmly established.   Kudos…
