My writing process..."And supposedly my ass will shrink a bit from being vertical so much!"

I was asked to do this thingamajig by Alison Tyler. And then I forgot what day it was today. So tada! Better late than never.




1)     What am I working on?I’m working on a book for Excessica called The Accidental Cougar. I got the idea when a very handsome young man—and I mean young—gave me a double take and a friendly flirty smile. At first I was shocked, I had no makeup on and was dressed like a character from Rent seeing as we’d had an ice/snow storm. But after the shock of someone being flirty with me wore off my brain started to spin a tale like none other I’ve told. I tend to favor older man, younger woman if my characters aren’t around the same age. I’ve never done a cougar. And I have to say…rawr! I like it.
2)     How does my work differ from others of its genre?I have no idea. That would imply that I’ve read my genre in its entirety. I can tell you that I have been told I’m good at mixing humor with heavier emotions. I’ve also gotten some cheers for dialogue. Which is quite pleasing!
3)     Why do I write what I do?

Because I accidentally found out I can. And not only that I can, but it seems to be what I flourish in. The erotic genre. So why mess with something if it makes you happy and is working out for you, right? I do write other things, but I always end up back in erotic fiction. It’s my home. My dirty-dirty home.
4)     How does your writing process work?

I have no idea. Isn’t that a terrible answer? I don’t think I have a ‘process’ per se. A process indicates I do X,Y and Z every day. I don’t. I tend to work—especially right now—in the center of a swirling vortex of chaos. My process involves desperately attempting maybe an hour or two if I am super lucky alone per day. Ironically, that time is spent going to all ‘my spots’. I go Email #1, Email #2, Email #3, Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, Google. Every day. So that’s my process…maybe? I only do Pinterest if I know I have an hour to kill. No shit. I have a Pinterest problem. Then I write for a hard and fast sprint. After that, people are starting to get up and my other responsibilities are starting to rear their heads and I end up working whenever I can shove it in for the rest of the day. Right now, I am so in love with The Accidental Cougar I am wedging it in wherever possible. I recently bought a standing/rolling desk so while dinner is cooking/baking/sautéing or whatever, I can stand there and work. Pretty nifty. And supposedly my ass will shrink a bit from being vertical so much!
Beyond that, I write about 6 days a week. Sometimes 7. I often work on more than one book at a time. Sometimes I have two books going as far as writing and one for editing. Other times I have two under edits and am writing one. Or once in a great while, like right now with TAC, I’m working on just ONE thing. Alert the media!
I like background noise like Supernatural or Bones. I layer chores in with my writing because I can’t focus on the writing for too long a stretch by itself. My brain needs room to figure out the next step so that’s when folding laundry or stitching some fabric for a quilt or doing the dishes turn out to be lovely distractions.
Oh, and I talk. A lot. Online. I run my mouth all day. I am amazed that I get anything done at all, to be honest. But somehow the craziness works for me.
