“A holiday that is based around love

is not going to help me

when it comes to explaining

how much I care for you.

No amount of flowers

or candy is going to help you

understand why I am the way

that I am. Not even Hallmark

cards could do the proper justice

of showing you that my love for you

is not something temporary.

Little black words on a piece

of paper won’t be able to make up

for everything that we have both

done wrong. Paper is disposable,

but first and last impressions are not.

I will always remember the time

that you told me that my love

would never be enough to satisfy

your expectations. That my arms

were not made to be around your body.

Before I could even explain myself,

you already had the excuse for my actions

waiting on your tongue, ready to

try to prove a point. This is just another

holiday to remind you that you are lonely,

but don’t buy into it. You will never

be lonely as long as you know that

you’ve tried your hardest to keep the one

that you loved the most around.

No amount of romantic cards,

chocolate covered caramels,

and bouquets of already dead roses

can make up for everything

that we’ve been through.

It’s going to take a lot more

than a 24 hour holiday to show us

that maybe we would have been

better off if we were never in love.”
