Well, I just picked up your book and haven't started reading it yet, but at least speaking for myself, I'm not a short story fan, I read too fast, but I don't see them as a bad thing. It's more important that I have a way of getting notified when a new book by an author I like is coming out (mailing list, rss feed, something like that).

Well, then I would say give me a month or two, and you'll have two more novel-length entries in this series. For what I'm trying to do, the short story route has worked. For those that want something longer, the second official novel has clocked in at nearly 1/3 times as long as the first.
I haven't read any of these yet but I just saw them today, on Amazon, and they're definitely my cup of tea, so to speak. Is there a list anywhere of the series in chronological order? It seems very confusing to me, just looking at them on Amazon. There seems to be a main series, then a prequel series, but prequel books that don't fit into the prequel series, as well as short stories that give no indication of where they might fall into the timeline. I've tried Googling for a chronological order for them but so far I've found nothing of any use.
Thanks in advance for any help with this. I strongly dislike reading books out of order.
Hi! Thanks for the interest! I hope you've enjoyed what you've read so far. To help, here is a detailed breakdown. The order is:
Big in Japan (First Main Novel)
Blood & Rust (Black Days (BD) vol. 1)
A Night at the Opera (BD vol. 2)
Date Night (BD vol. 3)
Blackbird's Song (BD vol. 4, and a complete stand-alone)
The Impossible Door (BD vol. 5, and my wife's favorite)
Black Days (BD vol. 6)
Red Rook (Second Main Novel)
Old Ghosts (Available August 1st. The first in the Rare Gems arc)
Stories 1-5 in the Black Days arc are prequels. The actual novella Black Days takes place between Big in Japan and Red Rook, and is pretty massive by itself. In fact, it nearly became the second novel.
I will say, Blood & Rust was written when I was getting a feel for things, and the feedback, while not negative, suggests that its the weakest of the stories. To judge for yourself, there is a free copy located in its Goodreads listing.
Blood & Rust and Date Night are Allison stories, A Night at the Opera and The Impossible Door are Alice stories, and Blackbird's Song focuses exclusively on Victoria's origin. Black Days includes the whole main cast, but mainly focuses on Alice, Allison, and Aika.
Old Ghosts is finished planned for August 1st, and is a post-Red Rook Alice story. It's mostly a stand-alone adventure, but it makes reference to events and characters in the series. It will be available in the Kindle store for $0.99, because that's as awesome as they let me get.
Hope this helps.
