Free Book? I need a favor....

I'd like to offer readers a free book... but I need a favor.

Amazon won't permit the posting of free books, so when I posted my Goodreads M/M Romance story, The Sentinel, I listed the minimum price of .99. In order to make this book free, Amazon users have to report a lower price elsewhere.

Kobo has the story listed as "free", here.

http://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/eboo...

Would you be so kind as to visit the Amazon page, here, click on the link: "Would you like to tell us about a lower price ?" (or you can do so here), and give them the Kobo URL?

The more people who report, the faster the price will go to free. This story was always intended to be free, so I'm embarrassed that folks are buying it. All accidental earnings will go to my PFLAG group, as I did with The Telling.

Thanks, y'all!

justanya Yet another reason why I consider Amazon the Devil. It irritates me when they do that.

Eden Winters Yeah. I tried to put The Telling as a free read back in July. It's still selling for .99 cents. The good news is that all proceeds go directly to my local PFLAG chapter, and they're very happy with the windfall.

Kaje Harper Yeah, most of mine have been price matched, but The Family We're Born With is still .99, although the Trevor Project gets the proceeds. (After Amazon takes their 60%)

BTW I love that cover.

Eden Winters They don't make it easy, do they? And didn't seem impressed that All Romance had the book for free. Sigh. I just hope no one gets angry that they paid for The Sentinel when it's available elsewhere for free.

I haven't had anyone complain about it on any of mine, and the first one took 3 months to go free (The Aliveness Project got a nice check.) I think once you're donating the proceeds people are pretty fine with it. But good luck on the persuasion.

justanya Well thankfully some good is coming out of it. That's very generous of you to donate the funds to your local PFLAG!

They shouldn't charge for stories that are listed as free everywhere else though. The company comes across as greedy and unscrupulous. I guess they don't care how they are perceived. I buy everything except my ebooks from Amazon.

I love the fact that the cover states that its a free read : )

Eden Winters Thanks. It is wonderful to hand the money over to a worthy cause, though, isn't it?

Yes, that's why I'm afraid people will get upset. And we put it in the tag line to be honest.

I agree, and some would have erroneously blamed or accused the author of being greedy. You did the right thing posting this.

I've no desire to be greedy, but I do love helping a worthy cause like PFLAG.

Karen Done, I got my copy from ARe a while ago, so I let Amazon know it's available there as well. Honestly I never buy from Amazon, I just have to many issues with them and I don't own a Kindle so there's that too.

Thanks! They have a few policies I'm not fond of, but I've not had any real trouble with them, except for trying to get books marked down to free.
