Here’s Matt Smith In a Deleted Scene From “In Bruges” [VIDEO]

In Bruges was a 2008 film that starred Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two hitmen who get stuck in Bruges, Belgium. As the darkly-comedic story goes, the bickering pair are in the town awaiting orders from their creepy, psychopathic boss Harry, played by Ralph Fiennes.

In a deleted two-minute flashback scene, the young version of Harry is played by none other than the Eleventh Doctor himself, Matt Smith!

Looking very 1970s in a plain suit and long-ish hair, the young actor is seen sauntering through what appears to be a brothel, finding a woman who has been murdered (or gravely injured), and then travelling on to a police station to kill a police detective with a quick swipe of a sword.

As one can tell, the clip is extremely violent and graphic, and is definitely not suitable for younger viewers. It is fascinating to see Smith in this kind of non-Doctor Who element, and he seems confident and charismatic in the (very brief) role.

Matt Smith’s filming of his scene in In Bruges would have taken place after his appearances in Billie Piper’s The Sally Lockhart Mysteries and the short-lived series Party Animals, and just about a year before he was cast as the Doctor. It’s not every day that an actor would get to play a young Ralph Fiennes in a film, and having his scene cut from the story must have been very disappointing. But, as we all know, he went on to bigger and better things!

Kasterborites, are there any famous film roles that you think one of the Doctors would have been perfect for? In some alternate universe, are they watching David Tennant as James Bond or Matt Smith as Captain Jack Sparrow?
