Interview with C.M. Michaels

What do you think you’re really good at? As far as writing is concerned my books are fast-paced and keep the reader engaged. And while both Dangerous Waters and Kerrigan’s  Race feature strong romantic elements , they are about more than just your typical “boy-meets-girl” forbidden romance love story that so much of the genre focuses on.  The supporting characters have equally important roles to play in advancing the central plot. I also like to keep my central characters in the dark about key elements that will unfold rather than having the supernatural creatures have all the answers and the ignorant human being the one who is educated along with the reader. The main characters initial theories and assumptions are often totally off base, and in a lot of cases the reader may figure out what’s really going on before they do. 
What do you think you’re really bad at? Again sticking with writing (I’m sure my wife would be thrilled to field this question, otherwise), I have already seen a great deal of growth in my writing since my first novel. I now write with a stronger narrative voice, and I’m getting better at adding more color and flair to my prose. But these are still focus areas for me. I will be the first to admit that I have a lot to learn as a writer. I love to study my favorite author’s novels as I read to pick up on techniques and further hone my own style.
Is your life anything like it was two years ago? A lot of things are the same. We still live in the same house and have our same spoiled dog (Sophie). I still work for the same company for my day job as well. But the last year has certainly been a whirlwind as I prepared for the launch of my first novel, Dangerous Waters, on September 5th.  Between the editing process, building up my social media sites, creating the theatrical trailer and cover art, totally overhauling my website and putting together a book signing tour it has been a very busy year.
Do you have any phobias? I’m not great with heights unless I’m within a building. When my brothers all started using climbing tree stands for hunting several years ago I was more than reluctant to join them. I caved in the end, but my “maximum height” is about half of theirs. I’m also a bit compulsive about checking to make sure the garage door is down when we leave and that the stove is turned off, but not to the point where it’s a full blown OCD or anything.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
C.M Michaels grew up in a small town in northern Michigan as the youngest child of a close-knit family of seven. He met his wife, Teresa, while attending Saginaw Valley State University. Together they’ve provided a loving home for several four-legged “kids”, including Sophie, their eternally young at heart, hopelessly spoiled Spaniel.
He has always enjoyed writing, and still has fond memories of reading his first book, a children’s novella, to local grade schools when he was 14. Dangerous Waters, the first book in the Sisters in Blood series, is being published by Freya’s Bower on September 5th, 2013. C.M. is currently working on the second book in the Sisters in Blood series along with a Fantasy romance.
When he’s not writing, C.M. can be found curled up with a good book, watching movies or hitting the hiking trails with his wife. An avid reader since discovering Jim Kjelgaard novels in early childhood, his favorite authors include Kelley Armstrong, Peter V. Brett, Richelle Mead, Rachel Caine, Cassandra Claire, J.R. Ward, Laini Taylor and Tessa Dawn.
C.M. currently resides in Louisville, Kentucky.
