On Brain Damage, Cherry Cider & Things to Come...

This Week's To-Do List
Last Week's List

Ah, Monday - we meet again. Only one of us is going to make it out alive today...and it's not going to be you. Just sayin'.

So...did
you watch the Super Bowl yesterday? *yawn* I used to be a Broncos fan,
but I haven't been a football fan in years now, and after all the stuff
coming to light about just how much brain damage happens to those guys -
even with helmets, I doubt I'll ever go back to being a fan. I mean, we
pay them huge bucks to pretty much ruin their bodies *and* brains.
Aside from boxing (which I think is big in the UK as well, or so my
husband says), is there any other sport in the world so incredibly hard
on the human body as our US football? Hockey maybe, I guess.
Ah
well. I'm getting soft in my old age, I guess (never bothered me until
recently - might have something to do with the football/brain damage
documentary we watched the other night). I never have been able to watch
boxing, or hockey either, since fighting is pretty much inevitable (I'm
okay with wrestling...seems like there's less of the whole
bone/face-breakage thing). I'm not squeamish about blood or body parts,
but I do have an issue with people just pummeling the crap out of each
other for no real good reason. Which really isn't my call to make for
them, but I can't watch 'em do it.
It's
not the violence in boxing that gets to me so much as the lack of
logical reason for it. Yes, I know. Total spoilsport. I did enjoy
watching the World's Strongest Man competition earlier...they don't
fight each other though, just really, really heavy weights &
objects. For some reason, that doesn't bother me at all, even though
it's insanely punishing physically.

I am a walking dichotomy. Or a sitting one, anyways.

In
any case, far more annoying than yesterday's game was the fact that the
Mike's Smashed Apple Cider I bought (because I couldn't reach the last
pack of Angry Orchard way at the back of the cooler case) tasted more
like cherry cider than apple. It really just wasn't good, and both hubby
and I tossed half a bottle each. The rest will probably just sit in the
fridge until I get tired of looking at them, unless I can figure out a
way to cook with them. Pork roast marinade, maybe? Could be okay. Next
time, either Angry Orchard or Hornsby's. Sorry Mike. Your cider sucks.

Now
for something completely different. I've been thinking a lot lately
about what I can do to make my newsletter more interesting. Newsletter,
you say? You still have one of those?

Indeed
I do, though I haven't used it in awhile. I've been using it for new
releases only, like so many authors do, and frankly, I find that boring
(and hard to remember, since it's not on a schedule at all). So, we need
to kick things up a notch, to steal Emeril's phrase. I'm looking at
reinstating the monthly schedule...either that, or a bi-monthly mailing -
if you have a preference, now's the time to state it. I'll be including
new release info for that particular time period, plus a new,
subscriber only flash story with each mailing, links to the current
serial stories in case you want to catch up, and maybe links to some
other articles that might be of interest to you. I may even throw in a
free download link here and there...you never know.

If you have an opinion on any of those things, now's the time to state it! And if you aren't subscribed, sign up here.
The first newsletter with the new format will go out this Saturday
(Feb. 8th). And of course if you want to be notified of all my releases
including my pen name projects, you'll want to subscribe to the Brazen Snake Monthly as well.

That's
it for now, I think. The list links are at the top of the post (you
don't need an Evernote account to view them, just hit "Skip" in the
bottom right corner of the prompt when it comes up), and we're off and
running on another cold, snowy week!
