Day One

February 1, 2014

Happy 60th Birthday to my mom!

Months ago I rediscovered an old cassette tape of 5 songs Mom recorded when she was around 28-years old.

Some questioning revealed that she had saved up her money for a pianist and 1 hour of studio time.

They quickly moved from song to song.

There were no do-overs and she had no experience in the studio.

The result is a talented, moving, catchy and deeply authentic work.

Thanks to producer deluxe, Jon Berardi, we got the delicate 1/4″ reel-to-reel transferred to CD and mastered.

Stephen Snook came quick with the layout direction

and Bill Jonas executed.

The title of the release is from Steve.

It’s his favorite sentence by a southerner.

It comes from advice Mom gave to Aunt Tina when Aunt Tina’s county was on fire

and she didn’t know what to pack before leaving…

“Well, Sister, you just pack like you’re packin’ for a hurricane!”

Mom’s in the front room having a listen to her birthday gift,

a raw and honest version of herself from 32 years ago.

If she gives the thumbs up we’re gonna release the CD for fun.

Today is officially Day One of

Riled Up and Wasted On Light – Buddy Wakefield’s 2014-15 World Tour (Skipping Chechnya)

What great company to be in at the starting line.

Thank you, Mom, for 39 years of support, guidance and friendship.

Happy Birthday. Good on goodness for you.

See y’all tonight in Houston.
