Christine I shared this with my pro-Android friend, and we both enjoyed it thoroughly.

Josh As long as it took you to write that, you could have bought a Mac and had it up and running and gotten work done.

Andrea I concur with Josh, I have been a MAC & Android user for years now & will never go back to Microsoft. Mac may be expensive but their programs & apps are very reasonable & very user friendly. I get complements every time I make a document on how nice it looks because Pages has such nice templates.

Michael Leamy Open source. Linux ... life as a calm stream, not looking out of Windows, admiring the Apples ...

Preach on, Brother! I made the mistake of purchasing a Windows Touch; the constant switching back and forth between the desktop and touch modes was a nightmare. Luckily, it was returnable and I was able to escape imminent insanity. I'm much happier with the Samsung Note I got in exchange for it.

Ben Mr. Card, may i point you to the best manufacturer and innovator of this age, ASUS.

the PC in the link above is a 4-in-1; a perfect harmony between windows and android. one moment it can be a windows laptop; or with the click a button, an android laptop. or if you prefer mobility, disconnect it from the keyboard to have a very powerful android tablet based on the new Intel ARM processors; or switch back to windows with one button.
also may i suggest watching this video on windows 8, it helped me learn the OS much better than i could have on my own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ijE3...

Tom OSC-I sent your rant to my 65 year old brother who just returned a new laptop because he couldn't deal with Windows 8. IMHO, Microsoft destroyed the PC market with Win8 and pushed users to tablets - mostly Apple tablets. I was a manufacturer's rep at Best Buy stores and witnessed this first hand. Microsoft is out of touch. Good Bye Steve Ballmer...
LOVE your books. Anxiously awaiting your next Formic war series book.

J I think an android OS would be pretty sweet, but microsoft is far from over. They are about to get bigger.

8 is a test. A test to see how compatible a hybrid is and they are the only company so far to try and bridge that gap.

This gives them an advantage.

I see this as the latest vista. The good things from xp with the test bed of 7. Next up Windows 9. The new XP. The new 7.

This version has to be here and with it, microsoft are prepping the waters for a OS/device everyone wants. The tablet laptop hybrid. So while it might be a failure overall, they are readying you for the change incoming. I think that's a change for the good.

Also, incase anyone is interested, click and drag from the middle top to the bottom to close current windows. It also "apparently" automatically closes apps and processes after use. (I'm sceptical though").

That aside, I'd still love to see an android OS.
