Andrew Hughes

Born in Co. Wexford my next guest was educated at Trinity College in the city of Dublin where he still resides. He is a qualified archivist and worked for Ireland’s RTE before going freelance. His debut Novel The Convictions of John Delahunt was Shortlisted for the 2013 Irish Book Awards and his writing style has been likened to that of Andrew Taylor, Andrew Miller and Peter Ackroyd.

So, who is my next guest… Let’s find out more

Andrew Hughes

It was whilst conducting research for his acclaimed book, Lives Less Ordinary: Dublin’s Fitzwilliam Square 1798-1922, that Andrew first came across the true story which inspired him to write his debut novel; The Convictions of John Delahunt.

We are of course talking of the exceptionally talented Andrew Hughes who has agreed to run the gauntlet of Simons 10 Q Interviews

Whilst waiting for the interview to take place, here is a snippet of what some of the major broadsheets in Ireland have said of Andrew’s novel;

“Reminiscent of John Banville’s The Book of Evidence. . . a bracing, lurid tale that is as engrossing as it is chilling, and a fascinating glimpse into one of the darker periods in Dublin’s history.” (Declan Burke Irish Independent)

“The Irish spy novel comes in from the cold . . . a vivid piece of writing . . . brings to mind Andrew Miller’s Costa-winning novel, Pure.” (The Irish Times)

“Andrew Hughes does for early Victorian Dublin what Peter Ackroyd has done for mid-19th century London. This is to create an extraordinarily detailed world, impeccably researched to satisfy any student of history, while also being so superbly written that it soars as a masterly work of fiction . . . utterly compelling *****.” (Dermot Bolger Irish Mail on Sunday)

If your curiosity gets the better of you before the interview and you are yet to read one of Andrew’s works, then why not follow the link to Andrew’s Amazon Author page from where you can purchase either of his books (subject to availability);
